Chapter Thirteen: Run a battalion for a month

Aged 39, you are a Lieutenant Colonel, the Commanding Officer (CO), of an infantry battalion, a post that you have held for 15 months of what is expected to be a two and a half year assignment. You have already served with the Battalion several times before: as a platoon commander when you were first commissioned as an officer then, as a Captain, when were second in command of a company. Promoted to Major, you were in command of a rifle company. You also had wider experience outside the regiment in specialist roles and a General Staff appointment.
