Chapter Eight: HR theory
What makes someone a “good” or “bad” employee? There is no simple or clear answer to this (other than “depends”!). However the importance of the question has generated many theories, based in large measure on psychology but also other disciplines such as anthropology. These ideas have influenced the ways in which HR functions and anyone seeking to follow HR as a profession should have at least some understanding of them.
The world has changed a lot since the Stone Age. Have we humans adapted our approach to life, including our subconscious view of the world, fast enough to keep up? What innate characteristics are helpful or unhelpful to us in the world of work?
