made

suggestion
which
was
destined

a decisive effect
on
the
hostilities
which
began
four

and
reach
ed
a
climactic

during
rhe
Battle
of
Britain in 1940.

proposaJ

put
forward
was
that
warning
of
the
approach
of
enemv
aircraft
should
be
obtained
by
sending
radio
waves in
the
direction
of
the
oncoming
aircraft
and
that
knowledge
of
their
approach
should
then
be
obtained
by
listening-our
for
the
minute
signals
reflected
back
from
the
metal
structure
