how
much
radio
energy
would
be
required
to
damage
an
aircraft
or
adversely
affect
the

The
answer
came
out
at
an
impossibly
high figure.
However,
in
the
course
of
making
the
calculation,
Wilkins
realised
that
if
radio
waves
were
sent
in
the
direction
of
an
approaching
aircraft,
while
no
damage
would
be
done,
there
was a
possibility
of
doing
something
quite
different,
namely
detecting
the
radio
waves
reflected
back
from
rhat
aircraft.
This
proposal
was
put
forward
in
a
famous
memorandum
which
Watson
Watt
submitted
to
the
Air
Ministry
on
12
February
1935.
