hunt
was

on

norrh-west
approaches
and
the
Bay
of
Biscay,
but
gradually
it
spread
deeper
into
the
Atlantic as
longer-range
aircraft
came
into
use.
Submarine
searches
were
a difficult

tedious
job,

long
hours
of
patrol
led
to
few,

any, sightings. It was
sometimes
difficult
to
persuade
crews
that
their
very
presence
in
the
area
would
deter
the
submarines.

I,
