TALE ASSEMBLY, OR story structure, is the way that your story unfolds. In this chapter I will describe the various story structure theories currently on offer from the script doctors and gurus such as Syd Field, Michael Hague, Linda Seger, Robert McKee and so on. I will then attempt to explain story structure in my own unique way and, in the next chapter, I will tell you to set aside and disregard everything I have said in this chapter as I attempt to explain the basics of tale assemble and story structure in a very different way – by using the principles of character and character development.
