Ad lib

Extemporaneous lines or phrases used by actors appropriate to a given situation. Often used in group scenes such as parties.

Adaptation

The reworking of a story in a medium different from its creation.

Aerial Shot

A shot taken from the point of view of an airplane or helicopter.

Aleatory filming

Filming techniques based on chance and probability.

Antagonist

The opponent to the protagonist (hero).

Anticlimax

An emotional letdown in the buildup to the climax of the story.

Backstory

That which happens to the main characters before the movie begins. Omission of backstory can make a story flat and difficult for an audience to relate to a main character. See also Exposition.
