Chapter 4. The Internet of Fish

Fish make low-maintenance pets, but they don’t communicate well. An unhappy dog, cat, or even a parrot will let you know if something’s wrong. With fish, however, it’s often hard to know if they’re feeling OK until it’s too late. Fortunately, technology can help by monitoring the environment of your fish (see Figure 4-1).
One thing fish are especially sensitive to is water temperature. A temperature fluctuation of 10 degrees in either direction can shock and kill a fish. That’s where the Raspberry Pi comes in.
Sitting next to my aquarium, the Raspberry Pi is performing three tasks:
