Chapter Ten: Uncertainty in public health: epidemics

Abstract

Some of the most popular models of the dynamics of epidemics are discussed, and a brief survey of the literature is provided. Most models are modifications of the susceptible–infected–removed model. Simple simulations are carried out. Then, uncertainty is introduced to the models, which leads to the corresponding differential inclusions. The differential inclusion solver is used to calculate the reachable sets and to assess the ranges of the model variables when the uncertain variables are subject to fluctuations.
