In the late 1980s, Quark’s flagship product QuarkXPress surpassed PageMaker (then owned by the now-defunct Aldus, later owned by Adobe) as the preferred page-layout program in the desktop publishing universe. As a side note, although industry habit is to say simply “Quark” when referring to the product, Quark is the company and QuarkXPress is the product.
