11.6. How Categorization Works

UDDI is expected to hold hundreds of thousands of business entities and services. With such a large volume of data, it's necessary to categorize businesses, services, and other UDDI data items based on a meaningful categorization scheme. For example, businesses might be categorized by geographic region or industry type.

In general, categorization (sometimes called classification), is the process of adding information to a UDDI data structure, such as a business entity, making this data structure a member of one or more predefined categories.
