One Picture Is Worth More than a Lot of Text

Design iconography, or the reduction of information to a single unmistakable picture that can be quickly communicated, seems to be the forgotten stepchild of graphic strategy, language, and simplification. But iconography is where I hope to see us headed. Language will never be entirely obsolete (did you think you could get so much communication into 140 characters before Twitter?), but pictures will and should play a large role in communication, particularly as it relates to consumer product packaging. The product is your billboard, and iconography helps you make the most of it.
