Abstract

Academic burnout is described as a negative, chronic emotional response to studies that is characterized by fatigue, a cynical or detached attitude toward the use of studies, and a feeling of academic incompetence as a student. The objective of this study was to describe the levels of academic burnout and establish a causal relationship by personality type in students of a Latin American public university. Three hundred seventy-eight participants were evaluated using two instruments, the first was the Big Five Inventory-15p, and the other was the Maslach burnout Inventory - student survey. The data processing was carried out using the structural equation model using the partial least squares technique with the help of the Smart PLS 3.0.0 software. The results revealed that the model has a significant impact on establishing the predisposition to academic burnout, whose determination coefficient was (r2 = 0.670).
