5.1 INTRODUCTION
Although most petroleum products can be used as fuels, the term fuel oil, if used
without qualication, may be interpreted in various ways. For example, the term
fuel oil may be associated with the black, viscous, residual material that remains as
the result of renery distillation of crude oil, either alone or in a blend with lower-
boiling components, and which is used for steam generation for large slow-speed
