Bypass Filtration: A system of ltration in which only a portion of the total ow of
a circulating uid system passes through a lter at any instant or in which a
lter having its own circulating pump operates in parallel to the main ow.
Bypass Valve (Relief Valve): A valve mechanism that assures system uid ow when
a preselected differential pressure across the lter element is exceeded; the
valve allows all or part of the ow to bypass the lter element.
C or cent.: Centigrade.
Cams: Eccentric shafts used in most internal combustion engines to open and close
valves.
Capacity: The amount of contaminants a lter will hold before an excessive pres-
sure drop is caused. Most lters have bypass valves that open ...
