2. I interviewed forty-seven workers between 1992 and 2003. I chose mostly to talk to temps, part-timers, freelancers, outsourced workers, etc., who have emerged as the new breed of workers in the current era. I taped the interviews, which lasted for about two hours each. Throughout this book I changed interviewees’ names to protect their privacy. I conducted all the interviews in the Boston area, and I found the workers through temp agencies and personal references. These interviews provide not a scientific sample but simply a way to learn the stories of workers who are the new products of what I call today’s “regime.” ...
