My First Factory
I graduated high school in June 1975 and immediately got a job at a gas
station. It was my rst job out of school. I had worked part-time at res-
taurants washing dishes, etc., but I was not out of high school and this
was my start. It was a fun job. “Fill ‘er up,” “Check the oil,” “Give me $20
of regular.” Oh yeah, and every car with a pretty girl got the windshield
cleaned! So, it was going good, for a week. en one day the owner tells
me that the guy who I had replaced wanted his old job back and he felt
obligated to give it to him because he had worked there for several years.
So, I was unemployed.
