Chapter 5

Application to a 3D Helicopter Model

With some amazing features such as rising vertically, hovering, and steering in any direction, helicopters are considered to be one of the greatest engineering achievements. To maintain such features, operation efforts are needed to provide lift, tilt, rotation, and torque compensation, which also means that helicopters are one of the most complex dynamic engineering systems [117]. The harmonic excitation loads generated by the spinning rotor, the added random masses due to the mounted equipment, e.g. vibration absorbers, and a highly dynamic operation environment make helicopters a perfect research model for the author’s reliability approach.
