In this section you’ll learn about the two types of indirect illumination: final gather and global illumination. The focus of the exercises will be to get you to think about indirect illumination to determine which method will work best for your particular scene and to adjust some of the parameters that will help increase productivity. mental ray has many settings and parameters, and you’ll learn quickly that it’s very easy to slow down production without increasing quality by pushing too many buttons and changing too many values without understanding what they do.
