I WAS WATCHING a sports broadcast on the induction of one of our local sports heroes into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. As the commentators on the broadcast presented this individual’s career highlights and expounded upon why he deserved to be elected, you could really get a sense for how remarkable his baseball career had been. The combination of batting and fielding statistics generated over a 20-year career, as well as contributions to his community, made for a story every baseball player longs for.
