CONSIDER THE STUDY I referenced in chapter 3, in which just 62 percent of respondents said they were familiar with their company’s crisis plan. The study also revealed that approximately 13 percent of respondents knew that a plan existed but had never seen it, more than 10 percent weren’t sure if one existed, and more than 13 percent said they had no crisis plan at all.1 A failure to plan for the inevitable isn’t just head scratching; it’s a dereliction of duty on the part of any organization, regardless of size.
