INTRODUCTION TO THE SECOND EDITION

The first edition of Resilient Thinking was written in 2012; since then, a great deal has changed in the world that was entirely predictable. As I write this second edition, it is fair to say that we are in a pickle. Basically and fundamentally, because of a combination of ‘chickens coming home to roost’, misplaced optimism, and arrogance and experience overtaking thinking; we have ended up in a very difficult place. Our politics and governance seem to be failing; economies, pandemics and energy have weakened us at every level.
