Chapter 2. Designing Responsive Layouts/Grids

"To think about the web responsively is to think in proportions, not pixels."

The previous quote by Trent Walton summarizes the ideas in this chapter because, when we are working with responsive design, we must think about fluidity, adaptation, and not about being pixel perfect. This is the reason that the habit of checking pixel-by-pixel is in a fast decline.

But, there are two ways to solve this problem and keep our site responsive:

  • Performing the site conversions using a little math to ensure a good result
  • Using responsive grid systems where you pick a bunch of columns and keep your code within this column using relative dimensions
