The COVID-19 health pandemic coupled with the increased awareness of the persistence of anti-Black racial oppression in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd sparked a public discussion about how job and employment inequalities reflect and reproduce other social inequalities. For example, Black Americans were at increased risk of dying from the virus in part because of the nature of the jobs we occupy, and the availability and quality of health benefits associated with those positions.
