John arrived home that evening to find that Jane was not yet back from work. While officially Jane had a single shift day job, working life in a hospital was never entirely predictable, and she and John had this unspoken agreement that whoever arrived home first of an evening would start the preparations for the evening meal. To make this arrangement run smoothly, again without any formal spoken agreement, they had developed a schedule of daily meals that they tended to stick to and this evening was stir fry, aligned to this morning’s weekly early morning supermarket delivery.
