For leaders to be allowed to lead, to be followed, they must have some ability. Some of that ability will be innate but much of it can be learned. They must be clever enough – they don’t have to be the cleverest in the team – but they have to have sufficient intelligence to understand the contemporary context. They need the emotional intelligence to understand people as after all, leadership is about people.
