Once records are categorized, there are a number of options for safegua rding against
their destruction, if they cannot be quickly re-created from their original source. The type
of media they are stored on and the time dependency of the information may affect
your recovery strategy. M ost records are paper documents stored on-site. At the very least,
they should be stored in locked, fire-resistant cabinets. The most important documents
should be photocopied and stored off-site at a facility that specializes in document
storage. As with data storage, always audit the security, fire safety, rapid retrieval, and
