In Chapter 2 you learned how to take an RMAN backup to a storage location on the disk. Disk-based backup offers significant benefits over backing up to tape, such as a considerably faster backup (and an even faster recovery), the ability to merge backups to make the recovery quicker, the constant validation of incremental backups, and so on.
