Shelving and safety

An overview

Abstract

Shelving is a basic physical object. It is essential for the operations of most libraries. Shelving ages, and requires maintenance and repairs. Over time, librarians might modify shelving systems. In some cases, modifications can lead to shelving collapses. A shelving risk analysis includes an inventory of a library’s shelving systems, and a description of how they are moored to walls, floors, and other shelving units. The risk analysis should also include suggestions for risk mitigation, so as to make shelving more stable and secure.
