Beyond band-aid solutions

Dealing with medical emergencies in your library

Abstract

Serious medical emergencies in libraries are infrequent, but they can occur. While librarians may have first aid training, they might not be competent in using it to help patrons who suffer strokes and other serious medical problems. Libraries serving elderly patrons will experience more medical emergencies. Good first aid training and proper, well-maintained first aid kits are recommended.
