The joys of tabletopping
Before the terrorist attacks of 9/11, emergency management trainers in libraries often struggled to interest audiences in risk mitigation and preparedness, disaster response, and business resumption. Training was frequently based on unrealistic assumptions. There was no sense of urgency. After 9/11, however, training has become more practical. To enhance the sustainability of training, tabletop exercises are recommended. Included is a sample tabletop exercise involving a library flood.
