Multi-Hour and Multi–Time-Period Network Modeling and Design
There are two important classes of network design problems that will be discussed in this chapter: 1) multi–busy-hour, or multi-hour, and 2) multi–time-period, multi–planning-period, or simply multi-period.
Multi-hour refers to considering different traffic matrices at different times during the day. So far, in our discussion we have primarily considered a single demand volume matrix (which is based on traffic measurement and marketing input) to reflect the peak traffic during the day (except for consideration of multiple matrices due to failure states in Chapter 9).
