Congratulations! You’ve managed to conduct a productive and effectively managed meeting. You can pat yourself on the back for setting yourself up for success by making sure you had an agenda that actually was shaped by participant feedback. You even assigned prework so when everyone gathered for the actual event, you jumped right in to the discussion at a higher level of understanding. The conversation was well-balanced with input from everyone in attendance. You started and ended on time, and when you brought it to a close, everyone felt like a lot had been accomplished, including the goal of the meeting itself.
You might think you are good to go and want to move on to the next item on your to-do list. Not so fast! There’s this concept called a meeting continuum which means there are things that have to be done before, during, and after a meeting, and it’s that last one that tends to trip people up.
