Chapter . Introduction: Making the Switch?
In late 2006, I wandered into an Apple Store in Houston. As is usually the case, it was very crowded, with customers clustering around displays of all the company’s products, from iPods to Macintosh computers. I was playing with a MacBook, thinking about whether I might make the switch to a Mac.
To the left of me was a sales associate talking to a couple who were looking with furrowed brows at an iMac.
“So if I want to send e-mail, will this do that? Does it come with Outlook Express?” the man asked. The salesperson suppressed a smirk as she explained that the Mac comes with its own program, called simply Mail. The couple was clearly coming from the Windows world, also considering a switch.
