Chapter 7

Customer Service and Visitor Relations

Abstract

The relationship between security and customer service is important. Paying attention to visitors takes away the opportunity to steal, vandalize, or commit other violations. It also makes the public aware that staff are alert and paying attention to the activity around them. The value of good customer service is further defined in this chapter along with a list of positive customer service/visitor relations tactics. Some examples of extraordinary customer service acts are related. The responsibility for good customer service lies with every staff member at every level. The effect on the visiting public is felt from the outermost perimeter to the innermost workings of the institution.
