Cultural properties often house retail entities, such as gift shops, bookstores, souvenir shops, and food service. This chapter discusses the tactics necessary to prevent retail theft, apprehend violators, and avoid liability, which are all necessary and not a regular part of cultural property protection. Retail staff need to know and understand the law and the requirements for prosecution. Security staff need to know the law and coordinate response methods with the retail staff.
