One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was to hire someone who could replace me. Now, a lot of people are afraid to do that. They may think that person will make them look bad or outshine them. But, in my mind, it’s the contrary: The willingness to hire the best possible talent shows a commitment to the future and not just today. Plus, if I hadn’t hired people smarter than me, I would’ve been very lonely.
No business is really a business if it’s not built for tomorrow. The world is changing at an alarming pace and in order to not only keep up, but to actually lead the charge, you need leaders at every level of your organization.
