Active Server Pages (ASPs)
Active Server Pages (ASPs) are enabled by the use of server-side scripts. ASPs use scripts to orchestrate the interaction of COM components and to enable the pages to respond to a user's request. ASPs were introduced with Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) 3.0, and were greatly enhanced in the 4.0 and 5.0 releases .
An Active Server Page is a collection of server-side scripts and HTML tags in files that reside on the server. When the server sees that a user calls a file with an ASP extension, it passes the file to an Internet Server Application Programming Interface (ISAPI) filter, called asp.dll.
