Ethernet is the dominant wired LAN technology on the planet, the battle-scarred victor of more than a decade of LAN wars. This is great news because you really don’t have to learn more than one LAN technology to be an effective troubleshooter. Other technologies such as ArcNet, PhoneNet, AppleTalk, and Token-Ring, if they’re not already gone, are quickly melting off of the landscape.
