Problem Determination Using TCP/IP

We’ve already established that more information is good information. So, when you get off the phone, if connectivity still isn’t possible, and you have established that your physical gear is okay (power’s on in the closets, and so forth), it’s really useful to perform some basic TCP/IP troubleshooting steps to gather more data. I basically perform these measures as second nature; it’s really useful to have objective data about what is reachable versus what is not. Here are some steps that I typically follow as an initial information-gathering process.
