Hour 6, “Managing Your Database,” demonstrates loops and conditional statements in context. The context I am referring to in this hour is that of the ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) protocol.
During the last five years or so, Microsoft has developed several protocols based on object linking and embedding (OLE). Originally, dynamic data exchange (DDE) was defined to describe how compiled code could be reused. Think of DDE as one of the early black box standards for reusable code. After DDE, Microsoft provided us with what’s referred to as OLE (pronounced “oh-lay”). About 1996, Microsoft revised parts of OLE and renamed OLE as ActiveX.
