Who’s Online?

Throughout this book we have used a news site as a basis for the examples. On this site there are articles and commentary, and presumably many people view the content. A recent popular trend in online services is the development of a social community where like-minded people can virtually “hang out.” On some sites, the overall content is so focused that the simple fact that a user is visiting puts him in the same community as every other visitor. A news site is not like that.
