3.1. Introduction

Chapter 2 presented a model, the CBMG, for understanding how a customer interacts with an e-business site. The states of the CBMG, except for the Entry and Exit states, correspond to an e-business function. These functions are implemented by various software entities, called servers, which communicate with one another to implement the required e-commerce functions. These software servers run on machines interconnected through Local Area Networks (LANs) and sometimes Wide Area Networks (WANs).
