Chapter 5

International Collaborations

What?

Abstract

The Chinese government has underscored a globalization effort as a means to join the world’s scholarly communications and showcase China’s soft power. The effort includes various strategies such as sending students overseas to learn new technologies and methodologies, inviting foreigners to teach and study in China, and encouraging international cooperation in scholarly pursuits. A higher educational effort is also included with the introduction of several cases of joint adventures between foreign and domestic universities. This chapter describes briefly how cross-country collaborations, such as joint research projects and international conferences, are managed in the country.
