Emergency rooms do urgent work all the time—that is literally their purpose. Think about the last time that you were in the emergency room. It was probably for a long time. The medical staff performs the same medical procedures that one would expect at a doctor’s office (e.g., taking blood pressure and temperature, asking questions, getting a blood sample) but at a more rapid pace.

In interviews for this book, many Seconds-in-Command talked about how they assisted their organization and Firsts-in-Command during an emergency, quick turnaround projects, and rapid-fire projects.
