Second Life is, after all, a social space — a world of people eager to get to know each other, chat, and share a brave new world. However, like with any other new society, there are some rules to learn and some behaviors to avoid. Besides, who wants to look like a newbie by making a social faux pas?

In this chapter, we show you how to get in touch with other folks in Second Life. After all, what's the point in being in a virtual world if you can't make virtual friends? We cover several ways to communicate as well as how to gesture and invite people to be your friends so you can get in touch with them again easily.
