WHAT IS ANALYTICS?
When asked to define analytics, most of the analytical leaders profiled in this book hesitated before answering. None really had a clear, crisp definition at hand. After some thought, most supplied a couple of definitions, which were surprisingly consistent. On the one hand, they defined analytics broadly, as the entire technology ecosystem that delivers actionable insights to decision makers. On the other, they defined it narrowly, as advanced analytical technologies and processes that statisticians and data scientists use to tease patterns out of data. Interestingly, most underscored the importance of a data warehouse to running an effective analytics program.
