7.1 Overview
Provenance captures the history of a data item. A particular data item may have
many previous versions, each associated with its own chain, where each chain cor-
responds to a workflow. It is normally assumed that the provenance can grow much
faster than the data item it is associated with, and so we need the ability to capture
large provenance data graphs. In addition, we often need fine-grained recording
of the provenance to ensure the quality, the trustworthiness, and the correctness
