Program management is a strategic activity. It is focused more on the broader management of resources, planning, and coordination rather than the direct accomplishment of specific tasks.

Program management oversees many related projects in a way that provides benefits for and from all projects greater than the benefit that is gained for or from any one project. A project’s primary goal is to deliver a specific product, process, or standard; a program’s primary goal is to deliver the benefits accrued by the set of projects.
