An effective occupational safety management system demonstrates a careful evalu-
ation of how much occupational safety is needed to protect organizational assets.
Occupational safety managers must realize that too little occupational safety means
that organizational assets can easily be compromised, while too much occupational
safety can make assets hard to use or so degraded that performance is negatively
affected. Occupational safety must be inversely proportional to an asset’s utility. It
